James Rodriguez has had some rather curious last few months… Struggling in Sao Paulo, so much so that he terminated his contract with the Brazilian team, he had a superb Copa América with Colombia, even being named best player of the tournament. At 33 years old, he has shown that he can still bring things to a club in a top league…
In recent weeks, there have been a number of rumors surrounding the former AS Monaco and Real Madrid player. Mainly in Spain, with interest from Atletico Madrid, Villarreal and Celta de Vigo, but also from the Argentinian bigwigs, with rumors linking him to River Plate or Boca Juniors. He has also received offers from Major League Soccer and Saudi Arabia.
Back to Madrid
But as several Spanish media outlets reported this weekend, he said no to all these tempting offers and he has finally made his choice. He will sign with Rayo Vallecano in La Liga. Everything is done and the agreement is complete between the club and the player, who has already been given the number 10 at Vallecas. James Rodriguez will sign for one season with the Madrid team, which is now offering its superstar for the club’s centenary.
A nice move made easier by the player’s desire to return to live in Madrid, where he still has a house. A return to Spain that should be his last dance at the highest level. Rayo Vallecano, which notably welcomed back its compatriot Falcao, who left this summer, started its season well with a win and a draw in its first two Liga games.
