Manchester City went through all the emotions against Paris Saint-Germain on the second day of the Champions League league stage. Completely overwhelmed in the first period, the Citizens returned to the locker room three goals behind (0-3), before showing a completely different side after the break. Despite the final defeat (2-4), Enzo Maresca’s men largely dominated the last 45 minutes, with impressive statistics: 21 shots, including 8 on target, 4 big chances, 2 hits on the posts and 1.78 xG. The English also posted 62.4% possession and made 37 entries into the final third of the field, illustrating their territorial domination against a Parisian defense under pressure.
This awakening was notably reflected in a double from Erling Haaland, which allowed the Mancunians to win the second half (2-1). The Norwegian striker benefited from two assists from Iliman Ndiaye and Ayyoub Bouaddi, both of whom came on at half-time. Two changes which considerably boosted the offensive activity of the Citizens, without however allowing them to turn the match around. Despite this reaction, PSG managed to preserve their advantage and score a fourth goal to win at the Etihad Stadium.
