The fall was dizzying for Olivier Giroud, but the AC Milan striker saved his place at the last minute in the Top 50 of the French’s favorite personalities, revealed this Sunday.
Like every year, the Sunday Newspaper published its ranking of the fifty favorite personalities of the French. If certain fundamentals do not change, notably with the new first place gleaned by Jean-Jacques Goldman, several notable facts should still be highlighted. Well placed last year after a 2022 World Cup almost won, the players of the French football team suffered this time. Olivier Giroud notably experienced a dizzying fall.
So much so that the French striker came close to completely disappearing from the rankings. Ninth in 2022 with 17.6% of the votes, the 2018 world champion finds himself forty-eighth a year later, no less than thirty-nine places less. But the Milanese is not the only French footballer to have fallen significantly in this Top 50 of the French’s favorite personalities. Fourth last year, Kylian Mbappé lost eighteen places to find himself in twenty-second position.
Zidane, the safe bet
Not much better for Antoine Griezmann who fell fifteen places, going from eleventh in 2022 to twenty-sixth in 2023. The first French athlete to still be present in the Top 20 is none other than Zinedine Zidane (sixteenth). He finished just ahead of Teddy Riner (seventeenth) who is therefore the first active athlete in this ranking. On the rugby side, Antoine Dupont retains his thirty-eighth place from last year. On the other hand, not the least sporting woman in this Top 50.
As for the Top 5, Jean-Jacques Goldman is therefore in the lead ahead of another singer, Florent Pagny, then the astronaut Thomas Pesquet, the actor Omar Sy and the singer Vianney. The first woman only comes in fifteenth position with Sophie Marceau.
