The road to the 2026 World Cup has cleared up for the Carthage Eagles. On the move on the lawn of Equatorial Guinea on Monday, Tunisia won a capital victory which officially opens the doors of the World Cup. This success, torn in the last moments, completes a qualifying campaign controlled from start to finish.

An insurmountable defense

The hero of the day is called Mohamed Ben Romdhane. Al-Ahly’s midfielder found the fault at the end of the game, served by Firas Chaouat, offering Tunisia his seventh success in eight games. With this result, the men of Sami Trabelsi can no longer be joined by their runner-up, Namibia, and thus validate their ticket for the tournament organized in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

If Tunisia has been regular on the offensive level, it is above all its defensive solidity which forces respect. In eight meetings, the Carthage Eagles have conceded any goal, an impressive record which testifies to the tactical rigor established by their new coach. Sami Trabelsi, former international who competed in the 1998 World Cup, loops the loop by leading his country to the World Cup as a coach.

Tunisia faithful to the world meeting

This qualification confirms the place of Tunisia among the great African nations. The Eagles will compete in 2026 their seventh final phase of the World Cup, the third consecutive. Since 1998, only two tournaments have escaped them, in 2010 and 2014. During the last edition in Qatar, they had created the surprise by defeating France (1-0) in regulation time, a sign that they remain capable of shine.

It now remains to cross a historic CAP. Tunisia has never managed to get out of the group phase in six complete participations. With a solid team, led by executives in full maturity and a coach who knows the house, the ambition is clear: to transform this qualification into a real epic during the World 2026.
