A year, no more. Arriving from Lens in the summer of 2025 with an already well-established reputation in the French championship, Facundo Medina is leaving OM. The Argentinian international, finalist of the last World Cup with the Albiceleste (1-0 defeat against Spain), has officially signed up with Bayer Leverkusen, a club already interested in his profile last year.

Arriving in Marseille for 20 million euros, the 27-year-old defender leaves for 5 more in Germany (€23 million + €2 million bonus), where he signed up for five seasons. “Olympique de Marseille announces the transfer of Facundo Medina to Bayer Leverkusen. The club thanks Facundo Medina and wishes him the best for the rest of his career.indicates Leverkusen, which had already paid close to 30 million euros for ex-Lyon player Afonso Moreira this summer.

Only 17 championship matches with OM

The financial realities of OM are known to everyone: no one is safe from a transfer during this transfer window. Forced to downsize in the absence of qualification for the Champions League, Marseille has already parted ways (or will part ways) with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (1.5 million euros at La Coruna), Mason Greenwood (39 million euros at Fenerbahçe but Marseille only receives 23.4), or even Geronimo Rulli at Manchester City.

The sale of Facundo Medina is also welcome, even if Marseille will never really be able to take advantage of his qualities. Held back by an ankle injury for several months, the left-hander was only able to play 17 Ligue 1 matches in the Marseille jersey (1 assist). He now joins a club that is particularly well stocked in his position, where the promising Miguel Gutierrez joined a few days earlier.
