For Pierre Ménès, we should not expect major upheavals with the arrival of Zinedine Zidane on the bench of the France team.

A page is turning and a new era is dawning. After fourteen years at the head of the French team, Didier Deschamps bowed out after the 2026 World Cup. And as expected for several months, it was Zinedine Zidane who was chosen by the president of the FFF, Philippe Diallo, to take over.

Officially inducted on July 28, “Zizou” has already formed his staff, including the presence of his faithful assistant David Bettoni and Fabien Barthez as goalkeeper coach. Next step now for the former number 10 of the Blues: the announcement of his first list on September 17.

In the meantime, speculation is rife about the changes that Zidane could make within this French selection. But for Pierre Ménès, the supporters of the Blues risk being disappointed, he who does not see the former coach of Real Madrid bringing any major new features compared to his predecessor Didier Deschamps.

Ménès: “Zidane is not a sorcerer’s apprentice”

“I don’t expect any big changes at the head of the Blues with Zidane. France, like it or not, was in the semi-finals of the World Cup. They missed the match against Spain but it happened to others, all the teams were bad against Spain. There is still a solid base in the French team. Zidane is not a sorcerer’s apprentice, he is not going to change everything to say ‘I am Zizou, I change everything’. I rather expect homeopathic changes”estimated the former star consultant of Canal+ on his YouTube channel.

And Ménès added: “In the time he’s been eyeing this position, I imagine he’s had to put his composition together in his head plenty of times. Now we will have to see what differences there will be with Deschamps’ choices. We will see that from September with his first choices. » Start of response on September 25, on the occasion of “Zizou”’s first match on the Blues bench against Turkey in the Nations League.
