Gabriel Moscardo’s transfer to Paris Saint-Germain has been delayed following the results of the Corinthians midfielder’s medical examination.

The capital club exercised its release clause of 20 million euros and beat Chelsea and FC Barcelona to obtain his signature. According to The Athletic, Moscardo traveled to Paris for his medical examination on Friday, but tests detected a fracture in his foot which will require surgery. As a result, PSG’s plans to sign the young midfielder have been put on hold pending the outcome of the procedure.

Although an agreement was reached during the winter transfer window, Moscardo was expected to join PSG in July. These plans now depend on the outcome of the operation, which, according to The Athletic, will take place in Doha, Qatar, with the agreement of Corinthians, his current employer. If successful, the capital club could pay more than 2 million euros in appearance bonuses.

Despite these financial benefits, Corinthians president Augusto Melo criticized the sale of one of his star players for a ridiculous price, as he said in a press conference on Tuesday (via RMC Sport): “From the start, we were against the sale. This is a reality, and I have mentioned it during certain meetings. I was not in favor of the sale. Players trained at the club will always be a third income. We want our players to be trained, to give us titles before being promoted. It will be sold at an incredible price. I had to participate in this negotiation, even though it was not something we wanted, but, to give you an idea, if we had not accepted, they would have paid the cheaper clause. Why didn’t they increase Moscardo’s clause? Why didn’t they increase it when it was extended? »

French leaders will await the results of the foot operation before seeing if other interventions are necessary for the young player. If all goes well, it will be a remarkable turnaround for Moscardo, who only made his senior debut last June. He represented the Brazilian under-23 team, but has never played for the national team.
