Eliminated last season at the quarter-final stage by Real Madrid, Bayern Munich made their return to the Champions League this Thursday. For its first match of the league phase, the Bavarian club received the surprise of the previous edition, Bodo/Glimt. After a goalless first period, Vincent Kompany’s players played during the second act and Michael Olise notably scored a double (5-0).
Munich’s domination, however, was total, even during the first forty-five minutes. Bayern thus achieved 72% ball possession combined with eleven shots including five on target before the break. The visitors were happy to return to the locker room with a goalless draw of 0-0. The second half, however, was a real ordeal for them.
Two minutes after the restart, Jamal Musiala unlocked the goal machine (1-0, 47th), imitated by Harry Kane on the hour mark (2-0, 61st). The Englishman also took advantage of the decisive pass from Michael Olise who was going up in the towers. Alphonso Davies worsened the score in favor of his team (3-0, 77th). And then the Olise show really started.
Michael Olise ends up in a cannonball
On fire, the French international finished the match like a cannonball. A jewel-shaped missile fired full axis and cleaning the left corner of the Norwegian cage brought the score to 4-0.83). Not enough for the former Crystal Palace man who added a final goal in stoppage time (90th + 2) while Bodo/Glimt finished the match outnumbered after the expulsion of Odin Bjortuft (87th).
This success allows Bayer to occupy second place in the league phase behind PSG at the end of the first day. He confirms that we will necessarily have to count on him in this new Champions League campaign.
