France is indeed planning to organize the 2038 Football World Cup, after Saudi Arabia in 2034.

The 2026 edition of the World Cup has barely ended, the 2030 World Cup looms on the horizon, with no less than six nations already qualified since they are in charge of the largest organization in history: Spain, Portugal and Morocco, but also, as ephemeral guests, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay.

By a more or less subtle sleight of hand, FIFA was able to reserve the 2034 slot for Saudi Arabia, just 12 years after the tournament was awarded to Qatar. However, by virtue of the eternal rule of continental alternation, after having served Europe (Spain, Portugal), Africa (Morocco), South America (Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay) and Asia (Saudi Arabia) – a continent always in balance with Oceania – in the wake of a North American competition, the circle is closed.

“It’s a subject for reflection”

The next round, expected in 2038, could therefore see the Old Continent return to the forefront. And why not in this case France? Some believe in it and are already campaigning for a return of the World Cup to France, forty years after the original triumph of 1998. Potentially within the framework of an association with Germany – a beautiful symbol as the centenary of the Second World War approaches.

This Thursday evening on RMC, the president of the French Football Federation, Philippe Diallo, confirmed the temptation. “ It’s a subject for reflectionhe admitted live on the television channel. But at 48 (committed countries, editor’s note), we can no longer organize it alone. Look at the United States… » The thesis of a Franco-German tandem with a view to this 2038 World Cup is thus taking shape again. “ This is a partner that would make sense », breathes the boss of French football.
