Manchester United beat Sabah Baku this Thursday (4-0), for their big return to the Champions League. Como also shone.

No longer seen in the Champions League since its sad elimination in the group stage in 2023, Manchester United negotiated their first match of the league phase perfectly this Thursday. Opposed to the modest Sabah Baku, the Red Devils did not go into detail and won easily (4-0). For its part, Como played and won for the very first C1 meeting in its history (4-1 against RB Leipzig).

For United, the imbalance of power was immediately evident. Despite their good will, the Sabah Baku players were too timid and a little too limited for this duel. Certainly they had a few (rare) opportunities and could even have scored a goal, or even two. But either the imprecision or the good interventions of the Mancunian goalkeeper prevented them from achieving their goals. Manchester United, on the other hand, did the job.

Matheus Cunha opened the score even before the half-hour mark (1-0, 27th). Goal of the break offered by Bruno Fernandes (2-0, 42nd). And the game ended before the break with a goal from Benjamin Sesko, already a scorer this weekend in the Premier League against Everton (3-0, 45th). The fourth and final goal will be scored in the second half by Lisandro Martinez (68th). Enough to allow United to occupy fourth place in the standings on the evening of this first round of the Champions League.

Como wins for its first in the Champions League

At the same time, Como celebrated its very first participation in the most prestigious European competition in style. The Italian club, fourth in Serie A last season, torpedoed Christopher Nkunku’s RB Leipzig (4-1). Author of a double and the first goal for his team, Martin Baturina will have left his mark on the match. In the ranking, Como occupies fifth place.

The next meeting in C1 will take place in a month, after the international window. Manchester United will travel to Atlético de Madrid, while Como travels to Rotterdam to face Feyenoord.
