The recent deal signed by the Professional Football League with the CVC investment fund is not really a good deal for a club like OM.

Apart from the HAC and Paris FC, all the current players in Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 have recently endorsed the agreement reached between the LFP and the CVC investment fund to sell for 1.5 billion euros. euros 13.04% of the capital of the commercial company recently created by the League. Against this sum thus distributed within the elite – 200 million euros for PSG; 90 million for Marseille and Lyon; 80 million for Monaco, Rennes, Nice and Lille; 33 million for other L1 teams – CVC will receive 13% of the revenue generated by French football each year and ad vitam aeternam. A trifle but also a necessity for clubs hard hit in recent years by the Mediapro fiasco and the pandemic.

By mortgaging its future in this way, French football has certainly not made a good deal, but some clubs are certainly more harmed than others. This is the case of OM which, according to its former president Christophe Bouchet, should never have signed such a deal. “ The economic value of the French championship is two-thirds, perhaps even three-quarters, linked to OM and PSG. OM has been robbed for several decades », Proclaims in an interview with La Provence the man who managed the Olympians from 2002 to 2004.

OM robbed?

In 2003, we took the TV rights and divided them by 20. (…) Now 20 years later, we make a deal with a fund, we distribute the money and OM receives the same as Rennes and Nice. I can’t understand how OM agreed to be robbed like that. (…) OM should have received at least three times what the club received. Instead of 90, at least 270 million euros », judge Christophe Bouchet, who prides himself on knowing the LFP well having been on its board of directors and having sold “ TV rights worldwide “.
