The defeat conceded against Germany (2-1) on Tuesday will have unfortunate consequences in the FIFA Ranking.
It was certainly only a friendly match for which Didier Deschamps did not hesitate to do without several of his usual starters, first and foremost Kylian Mbappé, who had felt discomfort in his patella tendon the day before the match. However, the defeat conceded in Germany (2-1) by the vice-world champions is a bad look, especially since the Mannschaft was going through one of the worst periods in its history with no less than four defeats during these last five matches.
And this setback is not anecdotal for the France team. The Blues also lost big in the FIFA Ranking. While they were back on the heels of Argentina thanks to their four victories in a row to launch their qualifying campaign for Euro 2024, Didier Deschamps’ men saw the Albiceleste escape. While the French lost almost seven points in the rankings because of this setback against the Mannschaft, the world champions continued their success in 2023 with two new victories.
Already victorious over Ecuador for their first qualifying match for the 2026 World Cup, the Argentinians did it again in Bolivia on Tuesday, and are now ten steps ahead of France. And the latter also saw Brazil come closer and threaten their second place. Thanks to these two successes against Bolivia and Peru, the Seleçao has in fact returned to three small units of the Blues before the matches in October, during which France will successively face the Netherlands and Scotland.
