French football is in mourning. Jean-Paul Rostagni died this Monday at the age of 78, after a long illness. Trained at Cavigal in Nice, the defender joined AS Monaco in 1966, where he played 124 matches before making his first selection with the French team in 1969. He then played in Bordeaux, PSG, Paris FC then OGC Nice, his favorite club, for a total of 25 selections with the Blues between 1969 and 1973.
After his professional career, Rostagni turned to coaching, notably at Peymeinade. Very attached to his native region, the former French international will be buried in Drap, the town where he was born. “It is with great sadness that AS Monaco learned of the death of Jean-Paul Rostagni, former French international defender who made 124 appearances with the diagonal jersey (1966-1970). The Club sends its most sincere condolences to his family and loved ones”wrote the ASM in its press release.
