While his name has been circulating for several days on the Aston Villa side, Matteo Ruggeri would now be very close to leaving Atlético de Madrid. According to Marcathe 24-year-old Italian full-back accepted the English club’s proposal, thus bringing the two parties a little closer to a definitive agreement. His departure from Colchoneros would now be imminent, while Aston Villa wants to strengthen their left lane and provide more competition for Ian Maatsen.

This potential arrival comes after a particularly solid season for Ruggeri, author of 47 appearances and 7 assists with Atlético. But his future had also been marked in recent weeks by an extra-sporting controversy, after the dissemination on social networks of screenshots and videos accusing him of having paid a woman to obtain recordings containing in particular racist, sexual and blasphemous remarks. Despite this context, Aston Villa would therefore have decided to move forward on the file, with Ruggeri now on the verge of joining the Premier League, in place of Lucas Digne who will join PSG.
