After almost ten years of investigation and a first acquittal, Swiss justice confirmed on appeal the release of Michel Platini and Sepp Blatter in the suspicious payment case which had moved them from world football. Meeting in Muttenz, the extraordinary court of appeal of the federal criminal tribunal rejected the requisitions of the prosecution, which required a year and eight months suspended prison. Only a cassation recourse remains possible for limited reasons.

The case concerned the payment by FIFA of 2 million Swiss francs (1.8 million euros) to Platini in 2011, a sum qualified as ” false invoice “, But justified by the defense as a backward -in -law for services rendered between 1998 and 2002. The two men denounced from the start a political machination aimed at preventing the accession of French to the presidency of FIFA. Platini's lawyer now claims a ” moral repair ».
