Adopted by the Vélodrome and dubbed by Roberto de Zerbi, Adrien Rabiot flourishes at OM. But this great Marseille adventure may well be only a chapter in her career.
A meteoric rise to OM
Author of a remarkable performance against Lyon, crowned by a decisive goal, Adrien Rabiot seems to have found his balance in Marseille. The French international environment, known for its volume of play and its refined technique, has established itself as one of the natural leaders of the Olympian wardrobe. His complicity with executives like Pierre-Émile Hojbjerg and Valentin Rongier testifies to his successful integration. “The Duke”, who had never marked the VĂ©lodrome before, knew how to conquer Marseille supporters by his commitment on the ground and his charisma outside.
Rabiot may not make old OM bones.
Rabiot has a central role in the De Zerbi project
Roberto de Zerbi, the OM coach, has never hidden his admiration for Rabiot. Used in a more offensive role, the environment benefits from a freedom of movement which promotes its development. The Marseille coach, who regularly exchanges with Rabiot in Italian, sees in him a precious relay to transmit his tactical instructions. This relationship of confidence was decisive in the rise of the player, who erected as a real conductor of the Marseille midfield.
A future far from Marseille?
However, despite this idyll with Marseille, doubts remain on the future of Rabiot at OM. Although he has expressed his pleasure in playing under the Marseille colors, the midfielder has not yet confirmed if he will extend the adventure beyond this season. In the event of non-qualification for the Champions League, OM may have trouble retaining a player from this caliber, courted by several major European clubs.
The strong link between Rabiot and the director of football Mehdi Benatia, as well as his attachment to the “Marseille people”, could play in favor of OM. But when approaching the end of the season, the question remains: will Adrien Rabiot extend his story in Marseille or will he go to new horizons?
