Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, president of Paris Saint-Germain, took advantage of an interview given to Marca
to send a dig to the defenders of the European Super League. Notably Real Madrid and FC Barcelona. An opportunity for the Parisian leader to reaffirm his opposition to this controversial project.
“The Super League does not exist”
In his statements, Al-Khelaïfi strongly criticized the initiative of the two Spanish giants, calling it a pure illusion: “The Super League has never existed, except in the heads of a few people who have illusions. With the new formats of UEFA competitions and the revamped Club World Cup, this project is even less possible today. No one will support him: neither the supporters, nor the players, nor the clubs.”
A call to “return to the European family”
The PSG boss also sent a clear message to Real Madrid and Barça, the only clubs to still support this project:
“I hope that one day they will realize their error of judgment and return to the European family.”
This outing takes place in a context where relations between PSG and these two clubs are particularly tense. Particularly because of the disputes around players like Kylian Mbappé or Lionel Messi, and the institutional quarrels linked to the management of European football.
