It was the long-awaited match of the weekend in France. This Sunday evening, at the end of the 11th day of Ligue 1, Olympique Lyonnais won in front of their home crowd in the derby against AS Saint-Etienne (1-0).

Alexandre Lacazette found the net and allowed the Lyon people to win against their rival. With this success, Les Gones take fifth position in Ligue 1 with a total of 18 points. The Rhone residents are only 2 points from the podium and Olympique de Marseille.

On the ASSE side, it’s a small break after the victory on the previous day against RC Strasbourg. The Greens remain stuck in 16th place in the standings with 10 points to their name.

General Lacazette hits the mark

Both teams were impatiently awaiting this meeting. A Derby is not played, it is won. And the Lyonnais have understood this well. From the start of the match, Pierre Sage’s players put in the ingredients to hurt their opponents. Aggressive, enterprising with and without the ball, the Rhone residents will break the Saint-Etienne barrier quite quickly.

The Lyon captain scored an opportunistic goal following a corner and a deflection from de Tolisso in the area. Number 10 catches this ball narrowly with his right foot which he sends under the bar (1-0.20th).

A committed and suspenseful second act

Upon returning from the locker room, despite Lyon dominating overall, the Greens did not give up and continued to believe in their chances. The two teams go blow for blow. The Gones believe they can make the break with a goal from Ernest Nuamah, but it is refused because of a handball (81st).

At the end of the match, ASSE could have snatched the point from the draw. Ibrahim Sissoko missed the equalizer and had to come up against a great Lucas Perri.

The Lyonnais will want to confirm this precious success during the next day on the pitch at the Stade de Reims while the Stéphanois will try to raise their heads against Montpellier.
