2026 World Cup: bad draw for the Blues?

We will still have to wait ten days before knowing the identity of the first opponents of theFrench team
in America. But while waiting for this important deadline, the Blues can already plan on how this draw will take place.

Third nation in the FIFA rankings behind Spain and Argentina, France is unsurprisingly in the top hat. However, FIFA unveiled this Tuesday evening the constitution of these different hats. And several interpretations are possible.

The good news is that Didier Deschamps’ men will avoid meeting Argentina, Spain or England before the semi-finals if all these nations (including the French team) hold their place by finishing at the top of their group at the end of the group stage. A “protected” status which confers a real advantage in view of the first part of the knockout matches.

World Cup 2026: a group of death for the Blues?

But before these decisive matches, the Blues could also have a more complicated group stage than expected. That’s the bad news. Because FIFA has decided to place all the play-off players in the bottom hat. Italy is one of them.

In the worst case scenario, the Blues could therefore inherit their European neighbor as an opponent for the fourth hat during the draw. A very feared scenario, given the forces present in the other pots. A “group of death” could, for example, include Uruguay, Algeria and Italy in the France team group. Didier Deschamps and his men have not finished making films between now and December 5.
