OM’s campaign in the Champions League is getting complicated. Opta does not see the Marseille club qualifying for the round of 16.

We are now halfway through the league stage of the Champions League. Despite its defeat at the Parc des Princes against Bayern Munich (1-2), Paris Saint-Germain remains virtually directly qualified for the round of 16 of the competition.

Opta, which updated its predictions after this fourth day, now sees the reigning European champion finishing in sixth place in the
ranking on the evening of January 28. As for AS Monaco, winner of FK Bodø/Glimt on Tuesday evening (0-1), the supercomputer gives a 70.26% chance to the Principality team of finishing in play-off position.

For Olympique de Marseille, the forecasts are much more worrying. After
his setback at the Orange Vélodromelast Wednesday against Atalanta Bergamo (0-1), Roberto De Zerbi’s men are in 25th place and are therefore virtually eliminated.

OM not even a barrage?

Certainly, there are four matches left for the Marseille club to try to get out of this red zone. This will host two English clubs (Liverpool on November 25 and Newcastle on January 21) and will travel to Belgium twice (on the pitch of Union Saint-Gilloise on December 9 and that of Club Brugge on January 28).

Opta only gives OM a little more than one chance in three of finishing in the Top 24, but imagines it finishing in 28th place. Concerning the final victory, which would be a first since 1993, the vice-champion of France is only given a 0.07% chance.
