FC Barcelona was not particularly active during the summer transfer window. Indeed, the Catalan club only recorded one recruit during this period: Dani Olmo.
However, this signing was not without difficulties for the Blaugranas, faced with financial problems. The Spanish vice-champion had to part ways with Ilkay Gundogan to reduce his payroll, which made it possible to finalize the recruitment of Olmo on August 9, although his registration with La Liga was only validated on the 27th.
“He says it’s the best decision he’s ever made.”
Despite this, Barça’s ambitions were not lacking. The club also hoped to secure the services of another 2024 European champion, Nico Williams. Long associated with Culés, the Athletic Bilbao striker finally preferred to continue the adventure within the Basque club.
A decision which undoubtedly disappointed some of the Barcelona supporters, who dreamed of seeing him play alongside Lamine Yamal, his teammate in the selection. However, his older brother, Iñaki Williams, was very clear about this choice.
“Nico does not regret his decision to stay at Athletic, he says it is the best decision he has made. Nico is very happy in Bilbao and I hope we can continue playing together for as long as possible,” said the Ghanaian striker for Diario AS.
