This is definitely the match of the season in Ligue 1! This Sunday afternoon, as part of the 31st day of the championship, Stade Brestois snatched a historic victory on the Stade Rennais pitch by winning 5 goals to 4.

A success which does business for Stade Brestois which secures a place in the European Cup next season. With 56 points on the clock, SB29 finds itself third in the standings with one point ahead of Lille OSC. The Champions League is not very far away.

For Stade Rennais it’s a big blow. The Rennais are struggling to take points in this final sprint and have almost said goodbye to European places for next season. Steve Mandanda’s partners are in 7th place with 4 points behind sixth place RC Lens.

Rennes quickly takes the lead

This Breton derby got off to a very strong start. Stade Rennais did not wait very long to take the lead in this game. Arnaud Kalimuendo, with confidence, will score a double in 9 minutes. Two striker goals where he did not procrastinate in front of Marco Bizot’s cage (1.0-4th) and (2-0.9th).

In place and determined, the Rennais will dominate their opponents in this first act but were surprised a few minutes after the break goal by Stevie Mounié (2-1, 11th).

A second historic act!

Despite the three goals in this first act, the spectators were far from suspecting that the second act would descend into unreality. As soon as they return from the locker room, the Brestois, surely shaken by their coach at the break, return to level and go ahead on the scoreboard. Omari scores an own goal (2-2, 48th), and Martin Satriano finds the net in the process (2-3, 54th).

Roy’s players then took control of the game before making the difference and the break a few minutes after the hour mark thanks to a half-volley from Mahdi Camara (2-4, 66th).

Shaken by this reversal of the situation, but supported by their public, Stade Rennais responded straight away thanks to a clear shot from Arthur Theate which revived the Red and Black people (3-4, 68th).

Excited and accustomed to a rage to win, the SRFC once again made Brest crack in a set phase. Benjamin Bourigeaud mischievously finds Martin Terrier in the area who showed his sense of goal (4-4, 79th).

The counters are reset to zero and actions go from all sides. But at the end of added time, Brest changed the match again. Mathias Pereira Lage finds Lilian Brassier on a free kick at the far post who will propel this tense cross with a header into the back of Mandanda’s cage. Rennes is beaten and drops valuable points at home.
