José Mourinho has once again attacked Tottenham and their “empty trophy room” after his dismissal before the Carabao Cup final in April 2021.
The devastatingly outspoken Portuguese coach has been dismissed from his role in north London after just 17 months in charge, and days before an important final at Wembley. Spurs lost that match against Manchester City with Ryan Mason as caretaker, extending the long wait for a major title that dates back to 2008.
Mourinho still can’t understand why he was fired, given his trophy haul, and spoke on the Obi One podcast: “The most ridiculous thing is that a club whose trophy room is empty fired me two days before a final. Come on ! Tottenham have never won in 50 years. I don’t know when anymore. I’m two days away from a final and I couldn’t make the final. It’s the one that doesn’t smell good.”
He added : ” I had a plan, but sometimes it doesn’t work. But the reality is that every time I’ve been to Wembley with Chelsea, I’ve won. I went there three times with Man United, I won twice. The results are therefore good. It’s a stadium and an atmosphere that I’m comfortable with, because when you go to these big matches you have to feel comfortable, you can’t go to these matches and think the stadium is too big. I had the experience to try and help the team, but the final was against Man City and I would be a fool to say we would have won. But a few weeks before, we won against them 2-0 in our stadium, so the feeling was positive. But it’s like that “.
