Miracle for Tottenham

After being pushed around and trailing until the final minutes, Tottenham snatched victory on Coventry’s pitch on Wednesday in the last 16 of the League Cup (1-2).

Coventry can blame themselves and will dwell on their lack of tenacity for a long time, when they came very close to pulling off a major coup on Wednesday, in the round of 16 of the League Cup. Facing Tottenham, the locals resisted for the duration of the first half, before taking the lead after an hour of play with a goal from Brandon Thomas-Asante (1-0, 63rd). In front, Coventry held on until the 88th minute, when Dejan Kulusevski, who had come on a quarter of an hour earlier, equalized for Spurs (1-1). Relaunched, Tottenham finally snatched an unexpected victory in stoppage time, with a goal from Brennan Johnson (1-2, 90th+2).

In the other match that was taking place simultaneously, Brighton had to fight to get rid of a Wolverhampton team that was tenacious (3-2). Tenacious certainly, but constantly behind. Trailing 2-0 after goals from Carlos Baleba (1-0, 14th) and Simon Adingra (2-0, 31st), the Wolves reduced the gap just before the break through Gonçalo Guedes (2-1, 44th). A comeback from the visitors then seemed possible, but Ferdi Kadioglu gave the Seagulls some breathing room at the end of the game (3-1, 85th). Thomas Doyle’s new reduction in the score for the Wolves would not be enough (3-2, 90th+1).
