OM was among the best performing French teams during the month of August, with only two points dropped in three matches. This proves that the Roberto De Zerbi method works, but also that the OM squad is holding up. However, it turns out that the Italian coach would have liked to keep a player who was transferred elsewhere.
The player in question is Azzedine Ounahi. The latter was transferred to Panathinaikos during the last hours of the transfer window. Speaking to RMC Sport, De Zerbi said that it was not he who asked for the Moroccan’s departure:
“Ounahi wanted to leave too, and I knew that from the start, that’s why I didn’t play him in our friendlies in England and Augsburg. We’re going to watch his season and we’ll see next year because he’s still under contract.”
De Zerbi also counts on young people
Beyond the Ounahi case, De Zerbi still affirmed that he was satisfied with the way in which the Marseille transfer window was conducted. I experienced the transfer window actively, always being informed, in contact with Pablo Longoria, Medhi Benatia and Giovanni Rossi. I am very happy with the transfer window carried out both for arrivals and departures. We made a lot of changes in a single transfer window and it is not easy to manage to change things so much.
OM has recruited a lot in recent months, but that doesn’t stop the club from betting on young players. De Zerbi promises: “The situation today is very different, with many young players who can represent a heritage for the club, because many of them will stay for many years at OM. We have therefore worked well in the interest of the club and its future.”
