Emmanuel Macron has never hidden it. He has ardently supported OM since adolescence.

It is in the city of Amiens that Emmanuel Macron was born and raised. However, it is Olympique de Marseille that he chose to support as a football club.

“Why do I support OM? Because they made me dream! They made me cry sometimes. They made me vibrate”, he posted on April 1, 2017 on X, while he was at a meeting in Marseille for the presidential election which he would win a few weeks later.

The head of state was born at the end of 1977. Like most young boys of his generation interested in football, he chose to support OM chaired by Bernard Tapie. In 1993, when the Marseille club won the Champions League by beating AC Milan in the final, he was 15 years old.

Emmanuel Macron, OM in his blood

At the time, his favorite players were Jean-Pierre Papin, elected Ballon d’Or in 1991, and Chris Waddle. The Englishman left OM before the C1 triumph in Milan. He also quotes Basile Boli in the columns of So Foot, “for this unforgettable face of May 26, 1993”.

In 2017, during his first presidential vacation in Marseille, Emmanuel Macron visited the players at the Commanderie. “I am from the Marseille generation. It was a generous team. There were a lot of them that made me dream,” confessed the President of the French Republic in 2018 in Téléfoot.
