Last May, Mauricio Pochettino was dismissed from his position as Chelsea manager. The 52-year-old Argentinian had therefore not completed his two-year contract with the Blues, with both parties having decided “by mutual agreement to separate”.
The former Paris Saint-Germain coach didn’t take long to find a job. Indeed, he will become the next coach of the United States, according to information from New York TimesA particularly interesting challenge given that the USA will be hosting the next World Cup in 2026, jointly with Mexico and Canada.
Pochettino, a vocation as a coach?
In November 2022, while he had been without a club since leaving PSG during the previous summer, Mauricio Pochettino made no secret of his interest in a managerial position. At the time, he was expected to succeed Gareth Southgate at the helm of the Three Lions.
“Of course, my relations with England have always been very good. (…) I feel very comfortable here. You never know what’s going on. I’m open to everything.”he confided in an interview given to The Athletic. A few months later, in May 2023, he finally took the reins of Chelsea, a club with which he did not win a single title.
