A transfer valued at more than 30 million euros – or even 35 – was the price supposedly accepted by OM to recruit Mason Greenwood from Manchester United. With the key for the British firebrand a five-year Marseille contract and an annual salary of 2.5 million euros.
The Telegraph today specifies the agreements and amounts negotiated behind the scenes for the resounding arrival of the prodigy with a heavy past. The transaction would amount at this stage to 23.6 million euros, but with 8 million euros of bonuses subject to the achievement of various objectives.
Half of these bonuses – or 4 million euros – would thus only be paid to the Red Devils if, and only if, Mason Greenwood remains loyal to OM for at least three seasons. The Olympians would indeed have to give back to the Mancunians 50% of any possible capital gain on resale.
A buyout clause for United
In the end, the deal is therefore less costly than announced for Marseille – and a little less interesting for Manchester United, who will also give up 20% of this transfer to Getafe under an agreement with the Madrid club which has allowed the 22-year-old’s career to be relaunched.
Another important point revealed by the Telegraph – and not the least – the Red Devils would have negotiated with OM a buyout clause for the phenomenon.
