Netherlands coach Ronald Koeman has expressed his bitterness after the Oranje were eliminated by England in the semi-finals of Euro 2024.

The Netherlands’ journey ended at the gates of the Euro final against England (2-1) this Wednesday evening in Dortmund. However, the Dutch had started the match ideally, opening the score in the first minutes thanks to a sublime goal from Xavi Simons. A goal that suggested a scenario favourable to Ronald Koeman’s men.

But that was without counting on the steely mentality of the Three Lions, who benefited from a penalty converted by Harry Kane in the first half. A few minutes from the end, it was then Ollie Watkins who took charge of sealing the fate of the match.

“We felt like we were the better team”

In a post-match press conference, the Oranje coach expressed his regrets, highlighting a lack of control from his team. “I am disappointed with the final result of a match that started very well for us”Koeman conceded. “Afterwards we had difficulties in midfield to stop good players like Bellingham and Foden between the lines.

“We did not control the matchconfessed the former Barça manager. We made some changes to regain control. In the last twenty minutes we felt like we were the better team, attacking more. But that’s when the goal was scored, I think it was in the 90th minute, a great goal. But after that, it’s over. It’s hard to accept.”
