Asked about OM’s desire to entrust the coaching position to Sérgio Conceiçao, Christophe Dugarry really likes the Portuguese technician but does not forget the departure of the former FC Nantes winger in May 2017.

Will Sérgio Conceiçao return to Ligue 1? After seven years at FC Porto, for three Portuguese championship titles, the 49-year-old technician should be dismissed by the new management of president André Villas-Boas. The former Inter Milan right winger is now the priority of OM leaders, Pablo Longoria and Medhi Benatia, to succeed Jean-Louis Gasset as coach. Christophe Dugarry is delighted with this choice, but does not forget the surprise departure of the coach to FC Nantes in May 2017.

“I love the coach. He has an incredible personality. He is endearing, he makes his teams win. It gives a game identity, a grinta, a team spirit. I’m surprised there aren’t other more posh teams on him. He has proven himself, notably in Porto. If Marseille manages to attract this coach, I say hats off to the leaders. I attacked him when he left Nantes like a thief to go to Porto. I found it inappropriate. But he had put the local fiber forward, it was something he could not refuse”launched “Duga” on RMC on Tuesday.

The 98 world champion (who played for OM during the Blues’ coronation) believes that Conceiçao is “a coach capable of playing average teams, not necessarily with big names”like in Porto, where “he didn’t have any phenomena but he managed to make them play well”. This is not entirely true. Sérgio Conceição is above all a strategist in search of results rather than great victories. He is also ridiculed by part of the Dragons public…

After his glorious time at FC Porto, Sérgio Conceição thought he would continue his career in a major European club playing in the Champions League. He was tracked by Deco to succeed Xavi at FC Barcelona but this was not validated by Joan Laporta. And his compatriot Paulo Fonseca beat him to the AC Milan bench. Sérgio Conceição, contacted during the season, finally agreed to listen to the arguments of the Marseille leaders. But nothing is done…
