Stefano Pioli, the AC Milan coach, had to justify the transfer of Sandro Tonali to the English club Newcastle.

AC Milan coach Stefano Pioli has just said his club can’t help but sell Sandro Tonali to Newcastle United.

Pioli certain to replace Tonali

The Italian midfielder was transferred last week for 70 million euros. He signed a deal with the Magpies before returning to Italy last weekend. His departure caused a lot of talk on the other side of the Alps. The rossonerra management was blamed for firing one of his best assets when he saw himself continuing at San Siro.

Pioli therefore had to explain this transfer. And for him, it was the best decision to make: “It’s a big loss from a technical point of view and it needs to be replaced properly. This is a good opportunity for both parties and for him it was difficult to do something different”.

Failing to become a legend in Milan, Tonali is today the most expensive Italian player in history. He successively overtook Jorginho (€57m) and Gianluigi Buffon (€53m).
