If Kylian Mbappé wins the 2026 Ballon d’Or this Monday evening in London, France would further widen the gap at the top of the nations with the most different winners in the history of the prestigious trophy. Since the coronation of Ousmane Dembélé in 2025, the Blues already have six distinct winners, with Raymond Kopa (1958), Michel Platini (1983, 1984, 1985), Jean-Pierre Papin (1991), Zinédine Zidane (1998), Karim Benzema (2022) and the PSG striker. A success from the Real Madrid striker would bring this total to seven.

France would thus distance itself from Germany and Italy, which each have five different winners. For Mbappé, it would be a major individual consecration after several years of being among the contenders for the trophy. The captain of the French team, who has never won the Ballon d’Or, could add his name to the list and join the greatest legends of French football.
