Pep Guardiola has refuted suggestions Manchester City could repeat their incredible treble from last season.
City are in great form in all competitions, having won their last nine matches in a row. The club is closing in on Liverpool in the title race and looks to be the strongest team in the FA Cup and Champions League.
In addition, Guardiola has a full squad with the returns of John Stones, Kevin De Bruyne and top scorer Erling Haaland. However, the coach is not satisfied with rumors circulating in the media that his team could win another treble.
“99.9% chance”
“ Yes, a sextuple and a septuple. It’s a fairy tale, it’s more complicated than that”, Guardiola said in a press conference. “We have to try to beat Everton and we will see what happens. There’s a 99.99% chance we won’t win the treble. If it was easy, another team – United at the time – would do it.”
“ It’s not easy, not even winning at Brentford. What I like is the satisfaction at Luton Town when we are in difficulty and we win, and the celebration in the dressing room is what I like about my team. Winning at Brentford when last season we couldn’t beat them. This satisfaction”, added Guardiola. “Everything is so difficult in this business, what we have done in the past guarantees nothing. You have to redo everything every three days to stay in it until the end. What I like is that we are still here.”
