FC Barcelona sporting director Deco has contradicted the idea that Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola revolutionized FC Barcelona.
Deco attacks Pep Guardiola’s reign at Barça. In an interview given to La Vanguardia and taken up by Diario AS, the current sporting director of Barça minimizes the role played by the Iberian coach during his visit.
“When he arrived in Barcelona, there was talk of a big revolution, which is a big lie. Ronaldinho and I left, but he had Xavi, Iniesta, Busquets was promoted, Yaya Touré, the best player in Africa, Messi, of course, Samuel Eto’o…”.
“An intelligent coach”
“Guardiola was intelligent, and when he came in, he brought discipline and managerial quality, and he built the best team I have ever seen in my life. And he was intelligent, he knew not to waste time on other things.”
It is Deco who will be responsible for appointing the next coach of the Catalan club. After Xavi Hernandez said he would leave at the end of the season, the manager now has the task of finding someone who can deliver good results and aesthetics on a reduced budget.
