Former Manchester United goalkeeper and free agent David de Gea is reportedly in talks with Saudi Pro League club Al-Shabab.
De Gea left the Red Devils at the end of last season, ending a 12-year association at Old Trafford. The 33-year-old looked set to sign a new contract with the club last June, agreeing to a pay cut, but United pulled out of the process and signed Andre Onana from Inter instead. After being linked to Al-Nassr and Newcastle United, the Daily Mail claims negotiations with Al-Shabab are progressing over a transfer.
De Gea towards the Pro League
De Gea, who played 545 times for United, was reportedly left out as the Red Devils wanted a more confident keeper with the ball at his feet to initiate attacks. While Onana, signed for £47.2 million, is more technically proficient, it is questionable whether the Premier League giants made a mistake in letting the Spain international leave.
In his final season with United, De Gea won the Premier League Golden Glove after going 17 clean sheets as Erik ten Hag’s men finished in third place in the division. It was the second time the Spaniard had won the award following his success in 2017/18, when he kept 18 goals.
