Now recently retired after a career rich in experience, Mexican goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa returned to one of the most frustrating episodes of his career during an interview with Flashscore. While he was very close to joining PSG, the legendary Mexican goalkeeper saw his transfer fall through due to the clenbuterol affair, in which he found himself involved. A particularly difficult situation to live with for those who found themselves free from any contract. “It was difficult. It was hard because I was coming out of a summer during which I had suffered a lot. I was waiting for a transfer to PSG, then the whole clenbuterol thing happened. My contract was coming to an end and I was free, but with this affair, I couldn’t sign anywhere. My future was then very uncertain and complicated”he said.
Despite this missed opportunity to join French football, Ochoa assures that he has no resentment towards PSG, who really wanted to recruit him. “I am grateful to them because they trusted me. It was not a sporting decision that prevented the transfer. These are the circumstances”he explained, before returning to the possible regrets linked to this episode. “Could I have done anything differently?” No. I just focused on what I could control. I never blamed them. It wasn’t because they didn’t like me or didn’t want me as a player. It happened because of circumstances and I have a lot of affection for that period. » A missed appointment which could have given a whole new dimension to his European career.
