After a first failed attempt in 2021, the Super League will return. Its general secretary even gave a start date.
On April 18, 2021, a small earthquake shook the European continent of the football world. A project mainly led by the presidents of Juventus and Real Madrid, Andrea Agnelli (since replaced) and Florentino Perez, the Super League was officially created. Twelve European clubs, including six English, had agreed to participate in this project intended to compete with UEFA and its various European Cups. A rebellion immediately launched by the supporters of several English clubs concerned then caused a general backpedaling, leading to the pure and simple cancellation of the launch project. However, Real Madrid and FC Barcelona have not abandoned this famous project which will be relaunched.
In remarks given to West Francethe secretary general of the Super League, Anas Laghari, confided that the competition would be launched in September 2025. Sources cited by the media also provided more information: “ The aim is to start the new competition in September 2025, and to do so with the best teams in Europe and also with English clubs. (…) There are clubs which have signed privately with the project and which have publicly opposed it. »
Mysterious participants
For the moment, however, it is impossible to give the names of the mysterious clubs which have committed to participating, but the figure of twenty to thirty of the best European teams has been mentioned by the Super League itself. And the sources contacted by West France continue : ” We cannot give names so as not to expose them to UEFA, but the judgment of the European Court of Justice clearly says that reprisals cannot be carried out against those who adhere to the new project. » A decision from the Madrid Commercial Court is also expected on March 17. It should make it possible to “ clarify things » concerning the CJEU judgment
