Jordan Henderson has reportedly reached an agreement in principle with Ajax after managing to convince Al-Ettifaq to release him immediately.
The former Liverpool captain is desperate to leave the Middle East, where he moved a few months ago following a £12million transfer in the summer of 2023. It has been suggested that the former Liverpool captain’s wife midfielder could influence his decision to leave Saudi Arabia, as the family struggled to adapt to life in their new surroundings.
According to The Atheltic, Henderson has managed to make himself heard by Al-Ettifaq and his representatives are working with the club to prematurely terminate the three-year contract he signed last summer. The Saudi Pro League club were determined to keep him and had no intention of agreeing to his demands. But she finally softened her position and gave the green light to a permanent transfer. The midfielder is already on his way to England after agreeing in principle to join the Eredivisie side. After completing the paperwork and passing the medical, Henderson will be revealed as Ajax’s new player.
Henderson made 17 SPL appearances and provided four assists under former Liverpool teammate Steven Gerrard. They struggled to establish themselves as positive results were few and far between and the club languished in eighth place with just 25 points from 19 matches.
