The French women’s team can breathe, it will be well broadcast in France! M6 and France Télévisions have won the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, which will take place from July 20 to August 20.
After weeks of doubts, the announcement has finally fallen: M6 and France Télévisions have acquired the tv rights for the 2023 Women’s World Cup. Nothing was won for Les Bleues, who came close to disaster. Indeed, no broadcaster seemed inclined to pay between 15 and 20 million euros for the World Cup, as FIFA hoped. Finally, France Télévisions and M6 will share the rights, and will each pay 3 million euros. A sum far from what was originally planned and which annoys the competition. For long weeks, France TV recalled its intention not to pay to broadcast the 2023 World Cup. One of the reasons being the schedules of the meetings in Australia and New Zealand. In the end, therefore, the group will share the broadcast with M6 for a starving sum. And it does not pass at TF1.
TF1 rages like never before

The Team reports in the last few hours that the private group has it bad, very bad. It must be said that TF1 had, at the time of the call for tenders, offered 5 million for the 22 biggest matches. The chain believed in its chances, especially if a “paid antenna recovered the rest of the meetings”. But FIFA refused. In the end, TF1 growls and does not hide its frustration. FIFA’s attitude is hotly contested, as is that of the public authorities. The latter had not hesitated to insist that France Télévisions position itself on the rights of the Women’s World Cup. Still, TF1 will have to make up its mind. M6 and France TV are doing very well. As a reminder, during the previous edition of the World Cup in France, the rights had been sold for 19 million to TF1, which then sublicensed meetings to Canal+.
