OM comes away with a draw in Strasbourg

Marseille delivered a worrying performance in Strasbourg and can consider themselves fortunate to have gleaned a draw (1-1).

The international break was ultimately not enough to cure the ills at OM. This team is still doing so badly and they showed it this Saturday on the Strasbourg pitch. At Meinau, the Phocaeans were timid. The draw they managed to achieve (1-1) even appears flattering given the balance of power there was.

OM without ideas or genius

During three quarters of the game, Gennaro Gattuso’s men were seriously disrupted. Fortunately for them, they managed to score on one of the only two chances they created. After Joaquin Correa saw his shot miraculously released by Matz Sels (19e), Jonathan Clauss hit the mark with a nice volley at the edge of the area (27th). The French international had the elegance not to celebrate the goal against his former team.

Clauss’ goal allowed OM to get back into the game because Racing had been leading since the 6th minute and a strong strike from Emmanuel Emegha. An achievement which rewarded the Alsatians’ good start to the match. After being caught by the score, Patrick Vieira’s team once again regained the upper hand. And there would have been nothing illogical in her adding a second.

Kevin Gameiro caused the OM defense to suffer a lot.

Strasbourg deserved better

But, the Strasbourg residents lacked precision and success in the last gesture. At 53e, the indestructible Kevin Gameiro came up against Pau Lopez. And at 71e minute it was Dilane Bakwa who thought he could give his team the advantage again, but his curling shot from the left ended up on the edge. At 81eRacing also saw Leonardo Balerdi sign a big save in front of his goals while danger lurked behind him.

Ultimately, in this duel between teams urgently seeking points, there is no winner. A draw is no one’s business, but we can imagine that the Marseillais will be much more satisfied than their opponents of the day. Even if they remain far from their aspirations, Veretout and his teammates cannot spit on this happy point.
