While the sporting record of Olympique de Marseille is very disappointing, the transfer window of the Marseille club is on everyone’s lips.
Stuck in the soft underbelly with a disappointing 10th place in Ligue 1, Olympique de Marseille is far from its initial objectives. A disappointing journey which results from a largely failed transfer window, according to journalist Daniel Riolo. Called to comment on the OM results, the After columnist did not beat around the bush. According to him, Pablo Longoria is primarily responsible for this failure.
“The results have been catastrophic since (Gennaro) Gattuso was there. I don’t know if it’s a coaching problem. What is certain is that recruitment is a failure, Riolo said on RMC. The players who arrived are not good, we all agree on that. Gattuso can vary his tactical setup, play in 4-4-2, put a number 10 behind the striker… I have the impression that the problem is the limit of the players who are there. There are players who are extremely limited”.
“You don’t have a top striker”
Going into detail, Riolo targets more the offensive sector. “Defensively, the guys are fighting. But you don’t have a striker and the players on the wing aren’t good. The weakness of the guys you have on the field means that you return this copy at the end. Last year the team was just better. What (Igor) Tudor had put in place had worked”. Before getting more specific: “(Joaquin) Correa and (Ismaïla) Sarr are bad, I don’t know if they can do better than that. (…) Even on the left, when (Renan) Lodi arrived, we said “good news”. I even think that with all the faults he might have had, (Nuno) Tavares brought more,” concluded the RMC journalist.
