I remember a sentence I said when I was in charge of the Spanish team: “I don’t know what the result will be after several years, but I know that we will lose matches. But I am fully convinced that this way of playing is the best way to win. » Normally, I can’t always make this connection. In Paris, there was a real connection with the supporters, with the club. The beautiful tribute to Luis Campos
The 56-year-old technician admits that his understanding with Luis Campos plays a large part in this idyllic story. “ With Luis, the connection was very clear from the first minutes. He was someone I didn’t really know yet, but I quickly felt that he had confidence in me and that he wanted to do big things for the club. This connection surprised me, in a good way. It was a very important moment for me. I had already experienced great collaborations before, but this one was particularly strong. This is the best way to work for a coach: to have this confidence and move forward together. For me, a sports director must be courageous. He must recruit players suited to the coach’s ideas. In our case, Luis Campos’ ideas and mine are similar, and this is one of the keys to our success. »
With a state of mind and a thirst to win that does not fade over time. “ That was our first goal when we arrived here: to make history. The desire to constantly win is an essential characteristic of the very high level. (…) I would like us to be recognized as a respectful, courageous and ambitious team, made up of very talented players. I think it’s important to show children that you can play and win football while having fun. The supporters also have to enjoy watching us. »
