Erik Ten Hag intends to stay at Manchester United for many years to come.

Manchester United coach Erik ten Hag is certain there is no need to panic despite his team’s poor start to the season. The Batavian insists everyone at the club understands he is working on a “long-term project”. And that it is not a succession of poor performances that will call everything into question.

Ten Hag remains calm and believes in a long-term project

Speaking at the FWA Awards, ten Hag told William Hill: “I feel very comfortable in this club. I think we have a very good club, with good cooperation between the staff and the players. Last year was good, but in life sometimes there are ups and downs, but you have to stay united and fight.”

Asked about the failures of this season, Ten Hag insists: “There is always controversy when United don’t win, but as a club we are united and we fight together. We have a plan and we know where we are going. We have to stay calm and collected and we have to win every match – that’s always our intention.”

“There are reasons why we are not reaching the level we are capable of, but the season is long and this is a long-term project. We know what we are doing, with young players from the academy or by signing young players for a longer term, we will win,” he added.

The Dutch coach also indicated that his club does not suffer at all from the comparison with its citizen neighbor: “I think over the years Manchester United have done a great thing in putting Manchester on the world football map and now City have done the same thing, but we want to get back. As I said before, there are ups and downs, but we are really fighting to be competitive and to regain that presence.”
