Lionel Messi is the highest paid player in MLS right now – and he earns way more than his teammates Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba.

Inter Miami star Messi is the highest-paid player in the league, according to figures released by the MLS Players’ Association. The Argentine superstar, who joined the United States this summer, reportedly earns a base salary of $12 million and guaranteed compensation of $20.4 million.

He will also receive money from his contract with Adidas and a share of the MLS subscription revenue from Apple TV. Messi’s total earnings could reach $50-60 million per year, according to the LA Times.

The 36-year-old’s earnings are significantly higher than those of his former FC Barcelona and Miami teammates Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba. While the midfielder currently earns $1.5 million in base salary and $1.775 million in guaranteed compensation, Alba earns $1 million and $1.25 million, respectively.
