During an interview with L’Équipe, the former OM coach, Marcelino, strongly criticized the management of the Marseille club.

Arriving on the bench of Olympique de Marseille in July 2023 to succeed Igor Tudor as coach, Marcelino only lasted three months at Canebière before resigning from his position. Present during an interview given to The Team, three weeks after his departure from the Marseille club, the Iberian technician did not have his tongue in his pocket. Indeed, the Asturian pointed out the elements which, according to him, prevent OM from being “a great club”.

“It’s a club where creating a project is absolutely impossible”

“Very angry, disappointed and sad. We put all our enthusiasm into developing a super attractive project, in a large clubconfided Marcelino. In any case, we thought it was a great club in every sense of the word, but these deplorable events demonstrate that it is not as great a club as it would like to be. Some radical supporters who want to permanently influence events prevent it from being a big club”added the former Villarreal coach.

And the 58-year-old added: “My very short experience makes me think that this is a club where creating a project is absolutely impossible. Because such a big club cannot be handled by a few. Serious clubs are managed from the top, and each problem, each situation is managed and sanctioned if necessary. Supporters are supporters, they transmit passion and they are necessary”he concluded.
