Rennes, homophobic chants during the match against Nantes

As during PSG-OM a week ago, homophobic chants were heard on Sunday evening during the closing poster of the 7th day of Ligue 1.

“A one way trip. » This is the banner deployed on Sunday evening by the Roazhon Celtic Kop, the main group of supporters of Stade Rennais, during the reception of FC Nantes. The message was addressed to Matthis Abline, the young striker trained with the Rouge et Noir, but loaned this season to the Canaries. And this banner was accompanied by homophobic chants sung by the Mordelles stand, chants whistled by another part of the stadium.

The 20-year-old striker’s fault is clearly to have declared himself “proud to be from Nantes” during his presentation video with his new club. This mark of attachment to the rival club has obviously not passed on to Rennes, even though Abline is not a “pure” local. Ouest-France recalls that he comes from Maine-et-Loire and passed through the hopes center of Saint-SĂ©bastien, in the suburbs of Nantes. It was then that he continued his training in Rennes.

After PSG-OM…

Due to an agreement between the two clubs, Abline was not available for this meeting. But these songs have not escaped the people of Nantes. “I heard them, explains Quentin Merlin to Ouest-France. This is the second week in a row that the Sunday evening poster is the scene of homophobic chants, after PSG-OM. After the Classic, a meeting more publicized than the Breton derby, the Minister of Sports reacted by pleading for an end to the meeting in such a case. “We can’t get used to these homophobic chants”denounced Amélie Oudéa-Castera.
