A former French international is convinced that the Blues coach was against the appointment of Thierry Henry as head of the Espoirs.

Thierry Henry is today in charge of the France Espoirs team. On the surface, this seems to make everyone in France happy, but that is really not the case. Didier Deschamps would not necessarily be happy to have his former teammate on his side. This is what Mickael Landreau suggested.

“Henry needs to question himself”

The former French international spoke on Canal+ on Sunday evening. “Henry was not a federal choice. It is a political choice. I’m not sure Deschamps would have chosen that. And that the environment of the federation would have chosen Henry. It was especially the Minister of Sports who had a huge influence. Because there is an important issue (editor’s note, the Olympic Games)”he confided.

The former Canaries goalkeeper does not criticize this appointment. On the other hand, he expects his former teammate to rise to the task: “I find it legitimate, given his career. He has been on the ground and felt things. But he must question himself and progress. It will always be on display. Even if there, it is a little less so.”

He then concluded by indicating that Henry is lucky to be well surrounded by his staff: “But the composition is very solid, with Gerald Baticle and Jérémie Janot. It is an issue of competence and on a media level. But sportingly, it has to work because his (Henry’s) experiments have been more or less successful so far.”
