While the rivalry between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi declines, that between Kylian Mbappé and Erling Haaland is gaining momentum.

For around fifteen years, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo shared the Ballons d’Or, fueling a sometimes fantasized rivalry. Now at the end of their careers, the Argentinian and the Portuguese seem set to give way to another duel, that between Kylian Mbappé and Erling Haaland.

This rivalry between the Paris Saint-Germain striker and the Manchester City striker, however, hardly seems to focus the attention of the latter. “It must be emphasized how Messi and Cristiano did crazy things. We also have to remember that they still do it, because even if they get older, obviously, they remain fantastic players. (…) But, to come back to your question, I never talk about myself against other players, it’s not my way of being or seeing things”confided the Norwegian international during an interview given to France Football.

Erling Haaland nevertheless admits to watching certain matches of the man who is presented as his main rival. “Yes, of course, because I watch a lot of football on TV. By the way, I saw the incredible debut of Jude (Bellingham, his former teammate at Dortmund) at Real Madrid, it makes me really happy for him. I’m passionate about football, it’s what I’ve always loved and you could say that it takes up all my time, whether professionally or in my life. (…) But there are so many matches and training sessions that I also have to think about recovering,” recalls the man who broke the record for most goals scored in a single Premier League season
