Hakimi, his moving message for Morocco

A few hours after the earthquake which left several hundred dead during the night from Friday to Saturday in Morocco, Achraf Hakimi calls on his people for solidarity.

In Morocco, a powerful earthquake devastated the country during the night from Friday to Saturday, causing enormous damage and sowing panic in Marrakech. The latest official report, which is unfortunately only provisional, shows 820 deaths. The earthquake, measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale according to the American Institute of Geophysics, had its epicenter southwest of the tourist town.

Achraf Hakimi, one of the pillars of the Atlas Lions, reacted to this disaster on social networks. “We are going through a difficult time for all our fellow citizens. It’s time to help each other save as many lives as possible. My condolences to everyone who has lost a loved one,” wrote the Paris Saint-Germain right-back on social networks. This Saturday evening, the Moroccan selection was to face Liberia in Agadir, a city which was also affected by the earthquake.

“Following the earthquake which affected certain regions of Morocco, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation announces the postponement of the match which was to take place on Saturday September 9, 2023 in the evening, between the national team and its Liberian counterpart, during the final round of the qualifiers of the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations – Ivory Coast – until a later date, in agreement with the Confederation of African Football.
