Ronaldo, the new scandal

Cristiano Ronaldo did not score for Portugal against Slovakia on Friday evening. He especially escaped a red card after hitting the opposing goalkeeper in the head!

More fear than harm for Martin Dubravka, certainly, but Cristiano Ronaldo hit the Slovakia goalkeeper head-on during Portugal’s victory in Bratislava (0-1), Friday evening, in the Euro 2024 qualifiers. Bruno Fernandes scored the only goal of the game before half-time (43rd), for a 5th victory in as many matches for the Portuguese Seleçao.

On a cross from Bernardo Silva, “CR7” then missed his recovery and threw both feet forward at Dubravka, sending his crampons squarely into the Newcastle player’s head. Miraculously, the match referee only showed him a yellow card and the video referee did not reverse this decision (62nd). Ronaldo will nevertheless miss the next meeting against Luxembourg on Monday, which will probably be synonymous with qualification.

Vitinha started on the Portuguese side, while his PSG teammates Danilo Pereira and Gonçalo Ramos did not come into play. Opposite, Milan Skriniar led Slovakia, who recorded their first defeat of the qualifiers and will try to consolidate their 2nd place against Liechtenstein .
